Installing Closing Cross Member

Information 

Always use the test gauge 9748  when replacing or repositioning body parts.

  1. Fit closing cross member to the body
    1. 1.1. Insert the closing cross member, fit it on the side panels on the left and right.
    2. 1.2. Test gauge 9748  must be secured to the longitudinal member (impact pipe/impact absorber mounting) -A-  . Stake the fastening screws for the retaining strip on the closing cross member with the staking sleeves -B-  and screw in the staking screws.

    3. 1.3. Position the test gauge with the square pin -C-  on the light frame.

      To complete the fit, set the gap dimensions between the rear lid and side section according to the adjustment values. → WM 5X00IN DIAGRAM - BODY GAP DIMENSIONS (ALL MODELS)

    4. 1.4. Secure the closing cross member with tensioning clamps.
    5. 1.5. Tack-weld closing cross member.
    6. 1.6. Remove test gauge.
  2. Weld in closing cross member
    1. 2.1. Resistance spot-weld the closing cross member in areas -A, B, C-  .

    1. 3.1. Resistance spot-weld closing cross member in area -A-  and -B-  .

  4. Weld in closing cross member
    1. 4.1. Resistance spot-weld the closing cross member in area -A-  .

  5. Weld in closing cross member
    1. 5.1. Apply a full weld to the closing cross member in areas -A-  and -B-  using inert gas.
