Removing Side Section Reinforcement

  1. Remove outer hinge pillar. → Removing Outer Hinge Pillar
  2. Remove side panel. → Removing Side Section 
  3. Loosen riveted joints
    1. 3.1. Cut through riveted joints in area -A-  using a parting grinder and remove them.

  4. Mill off spotwelds
    1. 4.1. Mill off spotwelds in areas -A-  and -B-  using a spotweld cutter.

    Removing expanded sealant

    • The side section reinforcement is factory-sealed for roof reinforcement with expanded sealant in area -Y-  .
    • The expanded sealant will be destroyed when you change the side section reinforcement and must be replaced  .

  6. Separate bonded joints and remove expanded sealant
    1. 6.1. Heat up bonded joints in the area between the side section reinforcement and body using the Leister Electron hot-air gun/V.A.G. 1416 WE 1119  and remove side section reinforcement.
