Removing Rear Spoiler Trim

  1. Remove tail light at the left and right. → REMOVING TAIL LIGHT
  2. Remove rear spoiler trim.
    1. 2.1. Unscrew fastening screw -1-  at the left and right and remove retainer plate -3-  .

    2. 2.2. Disengage rear apron -2-  from the side panel -arrow-  .
    3. 2.3. Screw off fastening nut -1-  at the left and right -arrow-  .

    4. 2.4. Heat the rear spoiler trim -1-  in area -A-  (adhesive tape) with the hot-air blower v.a.g 1416  .
    5. 2.5. Lift up rear spoiler trim -1-  and remove it along with the spacers -2-  (-arrows-  ).

    7. 2.6. Slide the spacer bolt -2-  to one side, turn it -arrows-  and remove it from the rear spoiler trim -1-  .
    8. 2.7. Scrape off adhesive residue -A-  on the rear spoiler trim -1-  using a metal scraper.

    10. 2.8. Clean bonding surfaces with isopropanol.

      Information 

      Only when replacing the rear apron.

  3. Remove adapters for rear spoiler trim at the left and right.
    1. 3.1. Heat the adapter -1-  in area -A-  (adhesive tape) with the hot-air blower -arrows-  .

    2. 3.2. Insert a plastic wedge between the adapter -1-  and rear apron -2-  and loosen the bonded joint -arrow-  .

    3. 3.3. Remove adhesive residue -A-  on the rear apron -1-  using the film eraser Nr.174 Pos.1  and holder Nr.174 Pos.2  .

    4. 3.4. Clean bonding surfaces with isopropanol.
    5. 3.5. Scrape off adhesive residue -A-  on the adapter -1-  using a metal scraper.

    6. 3.6. Clean bonding surfaces with isopropanol.
