Installing Rear Spoiler: Notes

Information

The following assembly work must be performed when replacing the rear lid: → Preparing Rear Lid For Installing Rear Spoiler

Prepare rear spoiler for installation.
1. 1.1. Insert fastening screws -3- into lower part of rear spoiler -2- .
2. 1.2. Carefully position lower part of rear spoiler -2- on upper part of rear spoiler -1- (-arrows- ).
3. 1.3. Tighten fastening screws -3- crosswise. → Tightening torque: 7 Nm (5 ftlb.) Information

  Allow approx. 20 mm extra on top of the specified lengths as a pulling aid (protective film without adhesive tape). The pulling aid makes it easier to pull off the protective film when the rear spoiler is fitted.
4. 1.4. Get strips of adhesive tape ready.
  1. A= 35 mm + 20 mm
  2. B= 170 mm + 20 mm
  3. C= 170 mm + 20 mm
  4. D = 170 mm + 20 mm
  5. E = 35 mm + 20 mm
5. 1.5. Cut as much of the adhesive tape -A- as you need to pull it off the protective film.

  Clean bonding surface to remove any dust and grease.
6. 1.6. Stick strips of adhesive tape on the underside of the lower part of rear spoiler according to the designations -A, B, C, C, D, E- . Place the pulling aids -X- over the edge of the rear spoiler.

  Clean bonding surface to remove any dust and grease.
7. 1.7. Attach sealing cord -1- to the underside of the lower part of rear spoiler -2- by inserting it into the groove -arrows- and stick it on with Loctite 406 .
  Remove adhesive residue on visible and contact surfaces of the sealing cord.

8. 1.8. Stick support tape -1- (transparent adhesive film) to the bar on the underside of the lower part of the rear spoiler -2- .

9. 1.9. Insert the threaded plate -1- into the slot on the rear spoiler -2- (-arrow A- ) and slide it into the required position -arrow B- .
10. 1.10. Cover the threaded plates -1- with adhesive tape -3- if necessary, to prevent them from slipping out of the slot.
Fit rear spoiler on the rear lid.

Ensure that the pull tabs on the adhesive tape are still accessible after positioning the components.
1. 2.1. Slide the groove on the rear spoiler -1- onto the edge of the lid -2- from behind -arrow A- .
  Press the rear spoiler onto the edge of the rear lid until the gap dimension -X- is at zero all the way around.

2. 2.2. Align the rear spoiler -1- with the axis of symmetry of the rear lid -2- (-arrows B- ) so that the dimension -Y- is equal on both sides.

  Check the position of the threaded plate with respect to the bore and correct it using a small screwdriver if necessary.
3. 2.3. Fit fastening screws -1- on the threaded plate through the bores on the rear lid -2- .

4. 2.4. Carefully pull out the pull tabs on the adhesive tape -A- between the rear spoiler -1- and rear lid -2- .
  Press sealing cord into position using a plastic spatula if necessary.

5. 2.5. Heat the rear spoiler slightly with the hot-air blower and press it on using a rubber roller.
6. 2.6. Tighten the rear spoiler, starting from the center and working your way out.
  → Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
