Installing Transmission

WARNING: Hot fluid
  • Danger of scalding

→ Let the fluid cool down.

→ Wear personal protective gear.

Information 

Information 

  1. Run in transmission. Connect vent line -arrows-  for the transfer gear and insert special tool centring pin 9689 into the converter.

  2. Screw in fastening screws used to secure transmission to engine. This involves screwing in four screws on the engine side and six on the transmission side.
    1. -1-  - → Tightening torque: 80 Nm (59 ft lbs.) 
    2. -2a-  - → Tightening torque: 80 Nm (59 ft lbs.) 
    3. -2-  - → Tightening torque: 80 Nm (59 ft lbs.) 
    4. -3-  - → Tightening torque: 45 Nm (33 ft lbs.) 
    5. -4-  - → Tightening torque: 80 Nm (59 ft lbs.) 
    6. -5-  - → Tightening torque: 80 Nm (59 ft lbs.)

  3. Install transfer gear. → Installing transfer gear
  4. Screw in new converter screws through the opening in the starter using special tool 3/8" - 5/16" bit connector and Torx T55 bit screwdriver insert Nr.42-1. Tightening torque: 85 Nm (63 ft lbs.)

  5. Turn the crankshaft further for the next converter screw using a socket-wrench insert 9714.

  6. Attach safety clip -A-  to the selector lever cable and press cable on to the ball head -arrow-  .

  7. Press selector lever cable connection on to ball head -arrow-  .
  8. Fit sealing caps -2-  into the converter bell housing from below.

  9. Screw in coolant pipe fastening screws on converter bell housing -arrows-  . → Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.5 ft lbs.)

  10. Screw in fastening screw securing ATF line to transmission -arrow-  . → Tightening torque: 25 Nm (19 ft lbs.)

  11. Attach ATF line holder to converter bell housing. → Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft lbs.) 
  12. Install starter → Installing The Starter .
  13. Screw in fastening screws -arrows-  used to secure heat shields to transmission. → Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft lbs.)

  14. Install heat shield on all-wheel final drive -arrows-  . → Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft lbs.)

  15. Unscrew ATF inspection plug -2-  and fill in ATF until a constant discharge is visible at the lifting tube.

  16. Screw in ATF inspection plug -A-  . → Tightening torque: 70 Nm (52 ft lbs.)
