Removing Engine From Transmission

Loosen ATF line on the engine. -arrow-

Loosen coolant pipes on the transmission (two screws). -arrows-

Unclip vent line on the transmission -arrow- . Unclip vent line on the front-axle final drive on the engine. -arrows-

Open up heat protection and expose cable. -1 and 2-

Remove heat protection panel on the exhaust manifold. To do this, remove sheetmetal holder on heat protection panel and on intake manifold -arrows- . Pull heat protection panel out of the upper clamps.

Spray the six nuts securing the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter with anti-rust agent and leave it to take effect. Loosen catalytic converters on the exhaust manifolds (six nuts) -arrows- and lay catalytic converters aside towards the spring strut.

Remove starter. → Removing The Starter
Loosen three screws on the converter threaded joint through the installation opening on the starter. Turn and counter at the vibration balancer.
Remove screws between the engine and transmission until there is one screw left at the side. →

Mark engine mountings (hydraulic mounts) according to installation position using a felt-tip pen. Remove both nuts and all four screws on the engine mountings (hydraulic mounts). →

Secure engine to the lifting tackle and to the workshop crane For exact position, see → WM 1001IN LIFTING V6 3.6 L DFI ENGINE WITH A WORKSHOP CRANE

Carefully lift the engine/transmission unit and remove the two engine mountings (second worker presses suspended engine up slightly). Support the transmission by placing a wooden plank on the axle-body cross member underneath it and slowly lower the engine/transmission unit.
Remove the last screw between the engine and transmission.
Press the torque converter off the drive plate through the installation opening on the starter. →

Remove the engine with the workshop crane.
