Removing Lower Timing-Case Cover

NOTE: Incorrect handling of crankshafts
  • Risk of damage to the timing system

→ Never turn the crankshaft against the rolling direction or when the chain tensioner is removed.

→ Proceed carefully with your work.

→ Only turn the engine at the crankshaft.

→ After working on the camshaft, re-set the valve timing.

→ Observe general warning notes and working regulations.

Information 

  1. Remove and replace crankshaft sealing ring. → Removing sealing ring for crankshaft flywheel
  2. Remove lower timing-case cover.
    1. 2.1. Unscrew fastening screws on the timing-case cover. All screws are shown in grey in the illustration. . Don't forget the top two M8 screws for the cylinder head -1-  .

    2. 2.2. Detach securely bonded timing-case cover by knocking carefully with a rubber hammer.
    3. 2.3. Clean sealing faces on engine block, crankshaft and timing-case cover thoroughly.
