Removing Oil/Coolant Heat Exchanger (Oil Cooler)

  1. On vehicles with PDCC, loosen the hoses on the oil guide housing.
    1. 1.1. Remove two nuts. -arrows-

    2. 1.2. Unclip line under the air conditioning compressor -arrow-  . Lift the lines aside.

  2. Place a collection pan under the oil/coolant heat exchanger (oil cooler). Coolant and oil will run out during disassembly.
  3. Loosen the clips on the coolant hoses at the oil/coolant heat exchanger and slide them onto the hoses -1 and 2-  .

    1. 3.1. Clamp the hoses using hose clamp 3093  or hose clamp 3094  .
    2. 3.2. Pull off the hoses.
  4. Unclip the coolant hose assembly on the oil/coolant heat exchanger (oil cooler) from the holder. -6-

    1. Coolant pipe
    2. Coolant hose
    3. Holder
    4. Screw, M6 x 12
    5. Screw, M6 x 20
    6. Tab on oil/coolant heat exchanger
    1. B - Clip on to support bracket
    2. A - Direction of travel
  5. Loosen the fastening screws on the heat exchanger evenly -8-  and pull the heat exchanger down and off. During this process, both engine oil and coolant will leak out. Collect emerging oil and coolant and dispose of in accordance with legal requirements.

    1. Oil guide housing
    2. Oil-filter housing
    3. Oil filter
    4. Oil-filter sealing ring
    5. Oil duct adapter (cannot be replaced)
    6. Heat exchanger seal
    7. Oil/coolant heat exchanger
    8. Screw, M6 x 20; self-tapping screws ex-works; metric screws can also be used
    1. Direction of travel
  6. Remove seals. -6-  Clean sealing faces.
