Checking Oil Pressure
WARNING:
Toxic substances
- Danger of poisoning or suffocation
→ Ventilate the work area well.
→ Never ingest or inhale.
→ Read specific information on the Hazard Sheet.
→ Wear personal protective gear.
WARNING:
Hot fluid
- Danger of scalding
→ Let the fluid cool down.
→ Wear personal protective gear.
WARNING:
Highly inflammable or explosive materials
- Danger of fire or explosion
→ Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
→ Use suction to remove ignitable vapours.
→ Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.
Information
- Oil pressure may be too low for a number of reasons:
- Oil is diluted.
- Oil pump is faulty.
- Bearing clearance is too large (e.g. crankshaft bearing).
- Oil level is too low.
- Oil pressure-regulating valve is faulty.
- Incorrect oil has been used. Only use oil that has been approved by Porsche for the measurement.
Information
- The oil-pressure sender is located on the oil-filter console to the left under the generator.
Information
- When the oil-pressure sender is unscrewed, approx. 0.3 litres of engine oil will escape.
Collect emerging engine oil and dispose of it in accordance with the applicable national laws.
- Remove oil pressure switch/sensor. → 170419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ON V6 DFI ENGINES
- Use adapter insert 4 and tighten by hand with a suitable sealing ring instead of the oil pressure sensor/switch.
- Connect pressure gauge to hose.

Information
- The oil temperature must be between 80 and 100 °C when measuring oil pressure.
- Check the oil temperature using a special thermometer or PST II tester.
- Start the engine and move off at the required test speed. Read off the oil pressure on the pressure gauge while doing so.
Engine speed [rpm] Oil pressure [bar] 1500 1, 7 2000 3.0 to 5.5 more than 2000 7, 0 Information
- When the oil pressure tester "OP 85" is unscrewed, approx. 0.3 litres of engine oil will escape.
Collect emerging engine oil and dispose of it in accordance with the applicable national laws.
- Remove pressure gauge with test hose. Collect emerging engine oil and dispose of it in accordance with the applicable national laws.
