Fault code 1498: Diagnosis/troubleshooting

NOTE:
  • Before replacing the control module, the ground connections, power supply and plug connections on the control module must be checked.
  • When replacing the vehicle electrical system control module, observe the coding of the control module.
  • After the test drive, read out the fault memory with the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588 again. Additional causes of faults that could damage the vehicle electrical system control module should be detected and remedied.
DIAGNOSIS/TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Work instruction Display OK If not OK
1 Check power supply to right side light:
  • Check fuse 'F35' in right fuse carrier.
Fuse OK
Go to Step 2
Replace fuse.
→ End
If fuse is faulty again, then:
Go to Step 3
2 Check open circuit in front right bulb carrier:
  • Switch off the ignition.
  • Remove plug from front right lamp bracket.
  • (USA/Canada) Remove plug from front right side light.
  • Measure resistance in front right lamp bracket bushing between:
  • (Halogen headlights) 'Pin 1 and Pin 10'.
  • (Xenon headlights) 'Pin 4 and Pin 10'.
  • (USA/Canada) Measure resistance in side light bushing between 'Pin 1 and Pin 2'.
approx. 5 Ω
Go to Step 3
Repair / replace lamp carrier.
→ End
3 Check line for short circuit to B+:
  • Switch on ignition.
  • Measure voltage between vehicle electric system plug 'E Pin 4' and ground.
< 0.3 V
Go to Step 4
Repair / replace wiring harness.
→ End
4 Check line for short circuit to ground:
  • Switch off the ignition.
  • Measure resistance between vehicle electric system plug 'E Pin 4' and ground.
∞ Ω
Go to Step 5
Repair / replace wiring harness.
→ End
5 Check line for open circuit:
  • Measure resistance between vehicle electric system plug 'E' 'Pin 4' and:
  • (Halogen headlights) front halogen headlight plug 'Pin 1'
  • (Xenon headlights) measure Xenon headlight 'Pin 4'
  • (USA/Canada) Measure side light plug 'Pin 2'.
< 5 Ω
Go to Step 6
Repair / replace wiring harness.
→ End
6 Check short circuit to ground line B+:
  • Switch off the ignition.
  • Remove plug from front right main headlight.
  • Remove plug from right tail light.
  • Switch on ignition.
  • Measure voltage between body ground and front right main headlight plug 'Pin 10'.
  • Measure voltage between body ground and rear right tail light plug 'Pin 2'.
Go to Step 7 Repair /replace wiring harness
→ End
7 Check ground line (side light) for open circuit:
  • Switch off the ignition.
  • Measure resistance between body ground and front right main headlight plug Pin 10'.
  • Measure resistance between body ground and rear right tail light plug Pin 2'.
Go to Step 8 Repair / replace wiring harness
→ End
8 Replace vehicle electrical system control module
  • Observe note
→ End
