Preparing Connection Areas Of The Body For Installing The Rear Side Member

  1. Fit rear side member to the body.

    Information 

    • To fit the rear side member, the frame head (impact absorber mount) must be secured to the straightening set  .
    1. 1.1. Secure the frame head of the rear side member to the straightening set.

      Information 

      • Thick body panels (> 1.5 mm) must not be butt-welded without a welding gap. 
      • Always allow a welding gap of s = approx. 1x material strength when fitting new parts. 

      Information 

      The length of the new part (section) must be taken into account when measuring the cut on the rear side member.

    2. 1.2. Measure and mark the cut on the rear side member. Take the length of the new part into account when doing so.
    3. 1.3. Cut through the rear side member in area -A- using the oscillating body saw.

  2. Remove remaining piece of rear side member.

  3. Clean welding and sealing areas.
    1. 3.1. Clean undersealing, adhesive residue and paint off the connecting flanges of the body in the marked areas using a hot-air gun or rotary brush. Grind the connecting flanges until bare.

  4. Coat spot-weld flange areas with zinc powder paint.
    1. 4.1. Coat all spot-weld flange areas with zinc powder paint.
