Installing Wire Harness For Airbag
- Triggering of airbag unit
- System faults can occur
→ Switch off ignition and remove ignition key or remote control (hand-held transmitter).
→ A voltage supply (e.g. battery charger) must not be connected to the external power supply/jump-lead starting terminals.
→ Disconnect the battery and insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.
→ Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.
→ Only detach connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.
→ Make sure that no foreign objects are located in front of the airbag unit during installation.
→ Replace damaged parts during removal.
→ Always position airbag units so that the blow-out opening is facing upwards, e.g. crest on driver's airbag.
→ Do not position anything on the airbag units.
→ If removed for an extended period, the airbag units must be stored in a safe place.
→ Airbag units must not come into contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids, or similar substances.
→ Do not expose airbag units to temperatures above 90°.
→ Do not remove the short-circuit spring on the plug-in contacts.
→ Ignition and preparations may only be carried out by skilled staff, supervised by a second responsible person.
→ Before disposal, the airbag unit must be rendered harmless by electrical ignition performed in accordance with all precautionary measures, thereby preventing it from being used incorrectly.
- Disconnect the connectors of the damaged airbag line on the affected components. The illustration shows the connector on the acceleration sensor under the seat as an example.
- Insert the latch -2- on the connector -1- (-arrow A- ) until it engages securely.
- Release locking mechanism on the latch -2- (-arrow B- ) and pull off connector -1- (-arrow C- ).
- Cut off the connector of the damaged airbag line, isolate it and tie it to the wire harness.
Remove contact on the connector for airbag triggering unit
- Fold up storage box -A- .
- -arrow B- Unscrew fastening screws and remove cover.
- Lift rear centre console trim panel (unclip 4x), disconnect connector and remove.
- Fold up centre console trim panel to the front.
- Push in plug lock -1- , fold lever -2- over -arrow C- and pull off plug -arrow D- .
- Remove tie-wrap -arrow- at connector.
- Release contact strips on both sides of the connector housing -1- (-arrows a- ) and pull the contact strips -2 and 3- out of the connector housing -1- .
- Remove binding band on wire harness and push contact strip -2-
down off the contact strip -3-
.
Information
Use the airbag wiring diagram for assigning the airbag lines.
- Release contact of the damaged airbag line using the press-out tool 1575-1P
from the press-out tools set for Cayenne Nr.155-3
(-arrow a-
) and pull out of the contact strip.
Install new airbag line
- Connect connector for the new airbag line to the affected components until the connector engages securely. The illustration shows the connector on the acceleration sensor under the seat as an example.
- Route the new airbag line along the main wire harness, guide it through the existing cable ducts and tie it to the main wire harness using tie-wraps.
- Plug new airbag line into the contact strip until the contact engages securely.
- Push contact strip -2- onto the contact strip -3- . Attach new binding band onto wire harness.
- Insert the contact strips -2 and 3- into the connector housing until they engage securely.
- Affix new tie-wrap -arrow- .
- Connect connector -arrow D- and lock -arrow C- until the connector lock engages securely.
- Press in the connector until it is felt to engage.
- Insert centre console trim panel and clip in.
- Insert cover and screw down with the fastening screws -arrow B- .
- Fold down storage box.
- Read out fault memory and erase it if necessary.
