Programming Transmission Control Unit (PDK)

Information 

This description applies when a new PDK control unit is used.

NOTE: Voltage drop
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
  • Risk of damage to control unit
  • Fault entries in the control unit
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming

→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least → Nominal value: 40 A  to the vehicle battery.

WARNING: The vehicle can move automatically while you are calibrating the transmission control unit (PDK).
  • The raised vehicle can fall from the lifting platform, for example.
  • Danger of crushing.
  • Risk of damage to or from objects.

→ During calibration, the brake pedal must be blocked using a commercially available brake pedal lock.

→ The parking brake must be engaged.

→ The vehicle must not be raised and must be standing on its wheels.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester II 9818  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in PIWIS Tester II 9818  .

  1. Connect the Porsche System Tester to the vehicle and start the System Tester. Switch on the ignition and press [>>] to continue.
  2. Select the vehicle type. The diagnostic application starts.
  3. In the PDK  control unit, select Maintenance/repairs  and press [>>] to confirm your selection.
  4. Select Read data  in the Control unit replacement  menu and press [>>].
  5. Press [F8] to start reading data.
  6. The Tester confirms that Data was read out  . Press [>>].
  7. Remove the "old" PDK control unit and install the "new" PDK control unit.
  8. Select PDK  , Control unit replacement  and Write data  . Press [>>].
  9. Press [F8] to start writing data.
  10. In the Programming menu, select PDK: Programming  and press [>>]. Then read the warning notes on the Tester.
  11. Select vehicle type  and press [>>].
  12. Start programming  by pressing [F8]. Data is then written.
  13. The Tester confirms that Programming was completed successfully  . Press F12.
  14. Read out the PDK fault memory and check whether faults P1870, P1871 and P174B  are present.
    1. 14.1. If faults are present, correct the faults according to Guided Fault Finding instructions.
    2. 14.2. If there are no faults present, proceed with the calibration  process.
  15. In the Maintenance/repairs Calibration  menu, select the required calibration option and press [>>] to continue.
  16. Read the warnings displayed on the Tester.
  17. Start the calibration process  by pressing [F5].
  18. Follow the instructions on the Tester.
    1. 18.1. Shift travel is calibrated.
    2. 18.2. Hydraulics are calibrated.
    3. 18.3. Clutches are calibrated.
  19. The Tester displays the message Calibration successful  . Press [>>]. Follow the instructions on the Tester.
  20. Switch to the menu Codings/adaptations General coding  and press [>>].
  21. Select Country coding  and press F12 to continue.
  22. Country version  must now be selected. Press [F8] to start coding. Then press <<.
  23. Read out and erase all fault memories.
  24. Exit the menu and perform a test drive. Read out the fault memory for all control units after the test drive.
