CAN-timeout instrument cluster: Diagnosis/troubleshooting
DIAGNOSIS/TROUBLESHOOTING (FAULT CODE 36, AS OF MY 2002)

Check CAN bus wires for short circuit to B+ |
- Ignition off
- Plug connector A from instrument cluster
- Remove connector B from the air-conditioning system regulator
- Pull connector C from PCM2/CDR23 (if available)
- Ignition on
- Measure voltage on air-conditioning system regulator connector B between pin 1 and ground
- Measure voltage on air-conditioning system regulator connector B between pin 2 and ground

- Ignition off
- Measure resistance on air-conditioning system regulator connector B between pin 1 and ground
- Measure resistance on air-conditioning system regulator connector B between pin 2 and ground

Check CAN bus wires for short circuit between one another |
- Ignition off
- Measure resistance on air-conditioning system regulator connector B between pin 1 and pin 2

Step 4 |
Repair wiring harness

Check CAN bus wires for interchanging between one another |
- Ignition off
- Measure resistance between connector B on the air-conditioning system regulator pin 1 and instrument cluster connector A pin 14
- Measure resistance between connector B on the air-conditioning system regulator pin 1 and PCM2/CDR23 connector C pin 1 (if available)
- Measure resistance between connector B on the air-conditioning system regulator pin 2 and instrument cluster connector A pin 30
- Measure resistance between connector B on the air-conditioning system regulator pin 2 and PCM2/CDR23 connector C pin 2 (if available)

Repair wiring harness

Determine faulty control unit |
- Ignition off
- Attach connector A on the instrument cluster
- Ignition on
- Erase fault memory from instrument cluster
- Update and read out fault memory from instrument cluster

- Instrument cluster fault code 9102 and 9115 (and 9114, if PCM2/CDR23 is available) are to be entered

- Only instrument cluster fault code 9115 (and 9114, if PCM2/CDR23 is available) is to be entered
Step 7 |
