DIAGNOSIS/TROUBLESHOOTING (FAULT CODE 23, AS OF MY 2002)

Work instruction Display OK If not OK
1 Read out air-conditioning system fault memory Only display fault code 23 entered
Step 2
Fault code 23 and fault code 21/22/26/27/28/29 entered
Step 7
2 Check blower outlet sensor
  • Ignition off
  • Remove connector B from the air-conditioning system regulator
  • Measure resistance at connector B between pin 7 and pin 9
Approx. 1.2 k (at 23 °C)
  • for fault type short circuit to B+

Step 3
  • for fault type short circuit to ground

Step 4
  • for < 5

Step 5
  • for

Step 6
3 Check leads between air-conditioning system regulator and blower outlet sensor for short circuit to B+
  • Ignition on
  • Measure voltage between pin 7 and ground on connector B
  • Measure voltage between pin 9 and ground on connector B
< 0.3V
Step 10
Repair wiring harness
->End
4 Check lead between air-conditioning system regulator and blower outlet sensor for short circuit to ground
  • Ignition off
  • Measure resistance between pin 7 and ground on connector B
Step 10 Repair wiring harness
->End
5 Check leads between air-conditioning system regulator and blower outlet sensor for short circuit between one another
  • Ignition off
  • Pull connector off the blower outlet sensor
  • Measure resistance at connector B pin 7 and pin 9
Step 9 Repair wiring harness
->End
6 Check wiring between air-conditioning system regulator and blower outlet sensor for open circuit
  • Ignition off
  • Pull connector off the blower outlet sensor
  • Measure resistance between connector B on the air-conditioning system regulator pin 7 and blower outlet sensor pin 1
  • Measure resistance between connector B on the air-conditioning system regulator pin 9 and blower outlet sensor pin 2
< 5
Step 9
Repair wiring harness
->End
7 Check sensor ground for open circuit
  • Ignition off
  • Remove connector B from the air-conditioning system regulator
  • Measure resistance on connector B between pin 9 and:
If all values are O.k.
(see below)
Step 8
Repair the respective wiring harness
->End
  • Pin 5
Approx. 1.2 k(at 23 °C)
  • Pin 6
Approx. 2.8 k (at 23 °C)
  • Pin 7
Approx. 3.0 k(at 23 °C)
  • Pin 3
  • Pin 4
  • Pin 13
  • Pin 14
Plausible value between 0.3 k and 1.6 k
(dependent on the position of the respective flap)
8 Check sensor ground for short circuit to B+
  • Ignition off
  • Remove connector from all 3 temperature sensors
  • Remove connector from all 4 flap motors
  • Ignition on
  • Measure voltage between connector B, air-conditioning system regulator pin 9 and ground
< 0.3V
Step 10
Repair wiring harness
->End
9
  • Replace blower outlet sensor
->End
10
  • Replace air-conditioning system regulator
->End
