- Clamp the input shaft in the vice with protective jaws.
- Put the special tool 3167 onto the 3rd gear and position the transmission housing onto the special tool via the input shaft.
- Special tool 3167
- With a depth gauge, measure from the housing to the lower input shaft groove. See Fig 2
.
Dimension "a" = 28.5 mm
- With a depth gauge, measure from the housing to the bearing surface of the ball bearing. See Fig 3
.
Dimension "b" = 26.8 mm
- Measure the thickness of the lower snap ring (No. 8, in Fig. 30 in DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING TRANSMISSION G 86
).
x = a - b
= 28.5 - 26.8 mm
= 1.70 mm
- Measure the thickness of the snap ring in accordance with the table:SNAP RING THICKNESS SPECIFICATIONS - INPUT SHAFT
Measurement result (mm) Thickness (mm) 1.48...1.56 1.54 1.57...1.65 1.63 1.66...1.74 1.72 1.75...1.83 1.81 1.84...1.92 1.80 1.93...2.01 1.99 2.02...2.10 2.08 2.11...2.20 2.17 2.21...2.27 2.25 2.28...2.35 2.33 - Force the snap ring and ball bearing onto the input shaft with the special tool 30-100.
- Determine the thickest snap ring which can still just be used.
