Removing And Installing Transmission G86/20: Removal

- Remove silencer for the intake system.
- Support engine in installation position at the transport bracket using safety device 10 -222 A and support device 9591/1.
- Remove diagonal braces and sheetmetal cross member.
- Remove stabilizer.
- Remove rear silencer, see REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR MUFFLER - MANUAL .
- Remove rear cross member (V strut).
- Remove heat shield.
- Remove drive shafts at the transmission and protect shaft ends against damage (e.g. using scrap pieces of hose with a diameter of 30 mm).
- Disconnect plug connection for the reversing-light switch and pull the wire out of the retaining clips.WARNING: Do not press clutch pedal if the clutch slave cylinder has been removed. Danger of injury if piston rod flies out. For this reason, affix a warning sign at a clearly visible position on the vehicle!
- Unscrew clutch slave cylinder and hang it up at the side with the hose connected.
- Lever off shift cables on transmission lever using a commercially available removal tool.
- Release the support bracket sleeves (press tabs in the direction indicated by the arrow) and carefully pull them out of the bracket.
NOTE:
- The shift and selector cables must not be excessively bent or kinked.
- Place transmission jack under the transmission and fasten retaining strap.
- Remove transmission support with left and right hydraulic mounts.
A = Transmission support, B = Hydraulic mounts, C = Fastening nut M12 see Fig 5 .

NOTE: Fastening nut C (M12) must not be loosened. Otherwise, the transmission support will be damaged. - Unscrew fastening screws between transmission and engine. Use a polygon wrench (10 mm, part no. 999.571.052.02) for screw no. 4.
- Pull transmission to the rear and lower it carefully.
