Removing convertible top

NOTE: The cabriolet convertible top must be unlocked and the convertible-top compartment lid must be raised to its top position!
REMOVING CONVERTIBLE TOP INSTRUCTIONS (STEPS 1-4)

No. Procedure Instructions
1 Removing side-panel linings Unscrew the top fastening screw -1-2-3-  . See Fig 1 .
2 Detaching cloth covering Disengage the strip -4-5-  . See Fig 1 .
3 Detaching tension cable Press the ball socket of the tension cable -6-  . See Fig 1 .
4 Convertible top in service position up to model year 2002 Press tension bow -7-  . See Fig 1 .
WARNING: Damage to the convertible-top frame and rear glass window!
  • The convertible top must not be moved forwards by the electric motor in service position!
REMOVING CONVERTIBLE TOP INSTRUCTIONS (STEP 5)

5 Convertible top in service position as of model year 2003 Observe warning note. -8-9-  . See Fig 1 .
Open convertible top approx. 40 cm from windscreen frame. Detach the Velcro-fastening of the holding strap -8-9-  . See Fig 1 .

NOTE:
  • After replacing the convertible-top or detaching the push bars and operating the convertible top, it is essential to carry out basic adjustment of the convertible-top gears to ensure it closes correctly. See ADJUSTING CONVERTIBLE TOP GEAR  .
REMOVING CONVERTIBLE TOP INSTRUCTIONS (STEPS 6-9)

6 Detaching restraining straps On the cloth covering, disengage the left and right restraining straps -10-  . See Fig 2 .
7 Detaching push bar At the main bow, press out the ball socket of the push bar -11-  . See Fig 2 .
8 Disconnecting microswitches Disconnect the electrical plug connection at the microswitch -12-03.05.1999-  . See Fig 2 .
9 Detaching convertible-top support Unscrew fastening screws -13-14-  . See Fig 2 .
