Removing and installing convertible top gear: Notes

CAUTION: Malfunction of convertible top gear or material damage to convertible top!
Introduction of new convertible top gears on 3 May 1999!
  • The new convertible top gear can be installed together with an old convertible top gear. Ensure that the corresponding -component allocation (A)/(B)- is always maintained.
  • Components -up to 2 May 1999 (A)- gear 9A, spacer pin 10A, shaft 11A left, friction plate 3A
  • Components -from 3 May 1999 (B)- gear 9B, spacer pin 10B, friction plate 9B, shaft 11A
NOTE:
  • After installing a convertible top gear, the convertible top gear must be put on a basic setting. See ADJUSTING CONVERTIBLE TOP GEAR  .
  • The specification -Quantity- refers to a convertible top gear.
REMOVING AND INSTALLING CONVERTIBLE TOP GEAR (STEPS 1-7)

1 Fastening screw 1   After loosening the fastening screw -1-243-  . See Fig 2 .
2 Drive lever 1   Position drive lever and screw into place with the fastening screw -2-  . See Fig 2 .
3A Install friction plates only in connection with the components -A-  . See Fig 2 . 1   Install friction plate only in connection with gear -9A-10A-11A-  . See Fig 2 .
3B Install friction plate only in connection with the components -B-  . See Fig 2 . 1   Install friction plate only in connection with gear -9B-10B-11B-  . See Fig 2 .
4 Fastening screw 1   Tightening torque: see TIGHTENING TORQUES 
5 Spacer sleeve 1    
6 Push bar 1    
7 Ball journal 1    
REMOVING AND INSTALLING CONVERTIBLE TOP GEAR (STEPS 8-13)

8 Collar nut 3   Tightening torque:

9A Install gear only in connection with the components -A-  . See Fig 2 . 1 Undo fastening screws -8-  . See Fig 2 . Position gear on the spacer pins -10A-8-  . See Fig 2 .
9B Install gear only in connection with the components -B-  . See Fig 2 . 1 Undo fastening screws -8-  . See Fig 2 . Position gear on the spacer pins -10B--8-  . See Fig 2 .
10A Install spacer pins only in connection with the components -A-  . See Fig 2 . 3   Tightening torque: see TIGHTENING TORQUES 
10B Install spacer pins only in connection with the components -B-  . See Fig 2 . 3   Screw in the short thread length into the body. Tightening torque: see TIGHTENING TORQUES 
11A Left and right flexible shaft, identical parts. Install only in connection with the components -A-  . See Fig 2 . 1 Pull the clip -12-  . See Fig 2 . 1. See ADJUSTING CONVERTIBLE TOP GEAR  .
2. Insert flexible shaft on engine side and secure with clip -12-  . See Fig 2 .
11B Left and right flexible shaft, identical parts. Install only in connection with the components -B-  . See Fig 2 . 1 1. Press lug -arrow- on transmission side and pull off shaft.
2. Pull the clip -12-  off engine side and pull off flexible shaft. See Fig 2 .
1. Push in shaft on transmission side until it engages.
2. See ADJUSTING CONVERTIBLE TOP GEAR 
3. Insert flexible shaft on engine side and secure with clip -12-  . See Fig 2 .
