DIAGNOSIS/TROUBLESHOOTING PSM 5.3 (FAULT CODE 4460)

Work instruction Display OK If not OK
1 Check stop light switch
  • Stop light switch function test
Step 2 Repair stop light switch
->End
2 Visual inspection
  • Check the pressure sensor plug for damage and corrosion
Step 3 Repair pressure sensor plug
->End
3 Check supply voltage of the pressure sensor for short circuit to ground/open circuit
  • Switch off ignition
  • Pull off pressure sensor plug
  • Switch on ignition
  • Measure voltage between pin 3 of pressure sensor plug and ground
approx. 5 V
Step 4
  • Display 0 V: Short circuit to ground/open circuit in circuit between PSM control module plug pin 69 and pressure sensor plug pin 3
  • Display > 11 V

Short circuit to B+ between PSM control module plug pin 69 and pin 3 of the booster pump pressure sensor plug, or PSM contol module faulty
->End
4 Check ground of pressure sensor for open circuit
  • Measure voltage between pin 3 of the booster pump pressure sensor plug and pin 1 of the booster pump pressure sensor plug
approx. 5 V
Step 5
Open circuit in circuit between PSM control module plug pin 67 and pin 1 of the booster pump pressure sensor plug, or PSM contol module faulty
->End
5 Check signal lead of the pressure sensor for short circuit to B+
  • Switch off ignition
  • Pull off the PSM control module plug
  • Switch on ignition
  • Measure voltage between pin 2 of the booster pump pressure sensor plug and ground
< 0.3V
Step 6
Short circuit to B+ between pin 2 of booster pump pressure sensor plug and PSM control module plug pin 68
->End
6 Check signal lead of the pressure sensor for short circuit to ground
  • Switch off ignition
  • Measure resistance between pin 2 of the booster pump pressure sensor plug and ground
Step 7 Short circuit to ground between pin 2 of booster pump pressure sensor plug and PSM control module plug pin 68
->End
7 Check signal lead of the pressure sensor for open circuit
  • Measure resistance between pin 2 of the booster pump pressure sensor plug and PSM control module plug pin 68
< 5
Step 8
Open circuit between pin 2 of the booster pump pressure sensor plug and PSM control module plug pin 68
->End
8 Pressure sensor faulty
(replace booster pump)
->End
