8005 External Harman amplifier: Diagnosis/troubleshooting

DIAGNOSIS/TROUBLESHOOTING (8005 EXTERNAL HARMAN AMPLIFIER)

1 Read out external amplifier fault memory
  • Connect and start the Porsche System Tester II 9588 and switch on the ignition.
  • Select 911 (996) in the Vehicle type menu and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select PCM in the Control units menu and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select External Harman amplifier in the 911 (996) PCM2 function selection and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select Fault memory in the 911 (996) external Harman amplifier function selection and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Read out fault memory.
  • Erase fault memory.
  • Remove ignition key and switch on ignition again.
  • Read out fault memory.
  • Extract ambient data, press the "FORWORD" key.
-> End Fault code is still displayed

2 Check wiring harness and left door speaker
  • Switch off ignition.
  • Pull off plug A on the amplifier.
  • Check resistance on plug A, pins 7 and 16.

3 Check wiring harness to left door speaker
  • Pull off the plugs on the left door speakers.
  • Check the resistance in the wire between pin 7 on plug A of the amplifier and pin 2 of the plug for the front right door speaker.

Repair open circuit in wiring harness

4 Check wiring harness to left door speaker
  • Pull off the plug on the left door speaker.
  • Check the resistance in the wire between pin 16 on plug A of the amplifier and pin 1 of the plug for the left door speaker.

Repair open circuit in wiring harness
-> End
5 Check wiring harness to left door speaker
  • Pull off the plug on the door speaker.
  • Check the resistance in the wire from pin 7 on plug A of the amplifier to pin 16.
Step 6 Repair short circuit in wiring harness
-> End
6 Check wiring harness to left door speaker
  • Check the resistance in the wire between pin 7 on plug A of the amplifier and pin 14.
Step 9 Repair short circuit to ground in wiring harness
-> End
7 Check wiring harness to left door speaker
  • Check the resistance in the wire from pin 7 on plug A of the amplifier to ground.
Step 8 Repair short circuit to ground in the wiring harness
-> End
8 Check wiring harness to left door speaker
  • Check the voltage of the wire from pin 7 on plug A of the amplifier to ground.
  • Switch ignition on.

Repair short circuit to B+ in the wiring harness

9 Check wiring harness to left door speaker
  • Check the voltage of the wire from pin 16 on plug A of the amplifier to ground.
  • Switch ignition on.

Repair short circuit to B+ in the wiring harness

10 Replace front left door speaker -> End Step 10
11 Replace amplifier -> End
