Possible cause of fault

Short circuit between the two CAN leads (CAN-high and CAN-low)
Short circuit between CAN-high (drive) and ground
Short circuit between CAN-low (drive) and voltage
A faulty control unit connected to CAN drive bus
NOTE:
- The CAN drive bus is connected to the following control units:
- DME
- Tiptronic
- PSM and steering angle sensor
- Instrument cluster
NOTE: The plug connections of control units connected to the CAN drive bus are disconnected for trouble shooting. This has the effect that additional CAN relevant fault codes such as 9110 DME control unit are stored in the fault memory of the instrument cluster. These fault codes should be initially ignored and should be deleted on completion of the troubleshooting.
