Switch short circuit to ground: Diagnosis/troubleshooting

DIAGNOSIS/TROUBLESHOOTING FOR FAULT CODE 2

Work instruction Display OK If not OK
1 Check input signals for convertible top switch
  • Ignition on
  • Connect Porsche System Tester II 9588 and call up the Input signals menu
  • Check position of convertible-top button
Convertible-top button not actuated is displayed (both input signals indicate open)

  • Input signal indicates "open convertible top" button actuated (input signal indicates upward and closed)

Step 4
  • Input signal indicates "close convertible top" button actuated (input signal indicates downward and closed)

2 Check input signal open on convertible top control unit using alarm system control unit
  • Ignition off
  • Pull off plugs A and B on convertible top control unit
  • Measure voltage between plug A pin 2 and plug B pin 4 (terminal 30)
  • Operate remote control for opening convertible top and release
  • Insert vehicle key in lock barrel on the driver's side
  • Use the key to turn the lock barrel to "open", hold approximately 2 seconds and release
  • Remote control not operated or lock barrel not turned

< 0.3V
  • Remote control activated to "open" or lock cylinder turned to "open"

approx. 9 V to 10 V

3 Check input signal close on convertible top control unit using alarm system control unit
  • Ignition off
  • Measure voltage between plug A pin 15 and plug B pin 4 (terminal 30)
  • Use the key to turn the lock barrel to "close", hold approximately 2 seconds and release
  • Remove vehicle key from lock barrel on the driver's side
  • Operate remote control for closing convertible top and release
  • Remote control not operated or lock barrel not turned

< 0.3V
  • Remote control activated to "open" or lock cylinder turned to "open"

4 Check convertible top switch input signal open on convertible top control unit
  • Ignition off
  • Pull off plug A on convertible top control unit
  • Measure the resistance between plug A pin 1 and ground
  • Operate convertible top switch open and release
  • Convertible top switch open actuated

5 Check wire between convertible top switch open and convertible top control unit for short circuit to ground
  • Ignition off
  • Pull off plug on convertible top switch
  • Measure resistance between plug A pin 1 and switch plug pin 2

6 Check convertible top switch input signal close on convertible top control unit
  • Ignition off
  • Pull off plug A on convertible top control unit
  • Measure the resistance between plug A pin 1 and ground
  • Operate convertible top switch open and release
  • Convertible top switch open actuated

7 Check wire between convertible top switch close and convertible top control unit for short circuit to ground
  • Ignition off
  • Pull off plug on convertible top switch
  • Measure resistance between plug A pin 1 and switch plug pin 2

8 Check wires between convertible top switch and convertible top control unit for short circuit
  • Ignition off
  • Measure resistance between plug A pin 1 and pin 14

9 Check wires between alarm for motor and convertible top control unit for short circuit to ground
  • Ignition off
  • Pull off plug A on alarm system control unit
  • Measure resistance between convertible top control unit plug A pin 2 and ground
  • Measure resistance between convertible top control unit plug A pin 15 and ground

10 Check wires between alarm system control unit and convertible top control unit for short circuit
  • Ignition off
  • Measure the resistance between convertible top control unit plug A pin 2 and pin 15
