Cooling Fan (Air Blower): Removal

NOTE: On Turbo models, removal of the intercooler is necessary to remove the blower. To do this, remove the rear square nuts and front mounting bolts. Separate and plug the pressure pipes between the intercooler and intake pipes. See Fig 1.

  1. Blower may be removed (complete or with alternator only) with engine in vehicle. Air deflector plates between cylinders can only be detached with engine out of vehicle and camshaft housing(s) removed. Detach screws holding upper air channel. Hold alternator pulley, loosen pulley mounting nut and remove belt. Remove nuts from blower housing mount strap, and loosen strap.
  2. Lift blower housing and alternator off locating peg and toward rear. Mark wiring connectors on alternator for reassembly reference. Detach wiring harness from alternator. Remove blower housing with alternator. See Fig 2.
