Removal & Disassembly

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove undercover and rear wheel(s). Detach brake hose from lower control arm. Remove drive axle shaft. See RWD AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVE AXLES section. Disconnect stabilizer bar at stabilizer link.
  2. Remove brake caliper and set aside. Disconnect parking brake assembly from control arm. Remove strut-to-control arm bolt. Remove bolts attaching control arm to body.
  3. On Tiptronic equipped models, use a Ratcheting Box End Wrench (9299/1) to remove bolts attaching control arm to body.
  4. Remove control arm assembly. See Figure. Place control arm in press. Press hub out of wheel bearing assembly. Remove wheel bearing retaining plates. Heat control arm to 248-302°F (120-150°C). Press wheel bearing assembly out of control arm.
