Coil Spring & Strut Assembly: Removal
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove undercover and rear wheel(s). Remove lock nut from end of drive axle shaft (applying brakes to keep shaft from turning). Remove strut-to-control arm bolt.
- Remove heater blower and air cleaner. Disconnect wiring harness at spring strut connector. Mark upper strut position for installation reference. Remove nuts attaching strut to vehicle body. Remove strut assembly.
- Secure strut in soft-jawed vise. Loosen, but DO NOT remove, piston rod nut. Install spring compressor on coil spring and compress spring. Remove piston rod nut. Remove upper strut mount, protective tube, support ring, rubber cushion and coil spring. See Figure.
- Remove strut adjuster ring and adjuster sleeve. Inspect strut for leaks. If leak is present, replace strut. There should be no variation of pressure when pushing down or pulling up on piston rod.
