Ball Joint: Installation
- Install new ball joint into control arm and place stud into steering knuckle. Load ball joint by prying down on upper control arm to keep ball studs from turning and to facilitate installation of flange nut.
- While prying down, install castle nut and tighten to specifications. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Replace lock nuts when installing strut.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Inspect all parts and replace if necessary. Replace all lock nuts.
- Screw bolts on rear bracket in to body up to about 2 threads when installing the lower control arm. Tighten these 2 bolts to final torque after completing assembly procedure and bottoming vehicle several times.
- Load ball joints by applying pressure on upper control arm to keep ball studs from turning and to facilitate installation of flange nuts. Hold ball head when tightening nuts to prevent damaging cup on ball head of stabilizer bar link.
- Spray anti-corrosion compound on adjusting plate on lower control arm with eccentrics, steering tie rod in area of threads, and on threaded pin of upper ball joint.
