Cylinder Heads & Manifolds: Inspection

  1. Inspect cylinder heads for cracks and damage. Measure flatness using straightedge and feeler gauge. Maximum warpage is 0.001" (.03 mm). Maximum machining limit is .008" (.20 mm).
  2. The standard cylinder head-to-block sealing surface distance is 5.787-5.791" (147.0-147.1 mm). Service limit is 5.779" (146.80 mm). See Fig 1.
