Camshafts Drive Belt: Removal
- Remove air intake hoses and inlet duct. Remove all drive belts from auxiliary systems.
- Disconnect cables for throttle, cruise control and automatic transaxle (if equipped). Remove electrical harness retainers and place harness outside of cylinder head area.
- Loosen and remove fan shroud on engine. Remove left and right ignition leads on distributor caps. Remove distributor caps and both distributor rotors.
- Disconnect plugs for A/C compressor and drive belt tightness indicator. Remove drive belt cover upper sections on both sides. Remove power steering pump from mounting bracket and hang out of way.
- Remove clutch slave cylinder. Remove clamp on clutch hose holder and remove push rod. Allow cylinder with connected line to hang down.NOTE: DO NOT depress clutch pedal after clutch slave cylinder has been removed.
- Align mark for 45 degrees BTDC on cylinder No. 1 on vibration damper with Red needle by turning crankshaft clockwise. Camshafts may be turned without damaging the valves after aligning the 45 degree mark.
- Install Crankshaft Retainer Bracket (9161/1), in place of slave cylinder. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt and both pulleys, vibration damper and collar.
- Remove guide tube for oil dipstick. Remove alternator bracket and alternator. Remove center drive belt cover.
- Loosen drive belt with toothed belt tensioner. Remove tensioning roller bracket. Take off drive belt over right camshaft sprocket, water pump sprocket, left camshaft sprocket, oil pump sprocket and crankshaft sprocket. See Fig 1.
