Camshafts & Housing: Removal
- With vehicle on ground carefully remove front cross brace (under tension). Remove air intake hoses and air cleaner assembly. Remove intake manifold.
- Remove distributor cover, distributor rotor, camshaft drive belt and valve cover. Turn crankshaft clockwise to align No. 1 cylinder 45 degrees before TDC mark on vibration damper with cast boss of middle camshaft belt cover.NOTE: With crankshaft at 45 degree mark, camshafts may be turned without damaging valves.
- Release camshaft belt tensioner and remove camshaft drive belt. Remove camshaft sprocket bolt and remove camshaft sprocket. Remove drive hub and woodruff key from exhaust camshaft.
- Remove rear camshaft belt cover. Remove camshaft seals. Set marks on camshaft pointing up by turning exhaust camshaft. Remove camshaft chain tensioner.NOTE: Chain tensioner piston has spring force. Compress piston for removal and hold together with wire after removing.
- Hold both camshafts in bearings with Camshaft Holder (9226). Remove all other bearing caps. Carefully release camshaft holder and remove both camshafts with chain.
