Valve Body: Inspection

  1. Wash all parts in clean solvent and dry them with compressed air only. DO NOT use rags or water. Lint from rags can cause problems in flow of ATF after reassembly. Check all parts for burrs and scores. Replace assembly if damaged.
    NOTE: Valve which are slightly scored may be reused, if they slide under their own weight cleaning and lubrication with fresh ATF. This scoring will not affect operation of transmission.
  2. Check all valve body springs for damage or collapsed coils. Some transfer plates are equipped with 3 sealing balls. If transmission did not shift into 3rd gear, trouble may be caused by missing sealing ball.
  3. To install new sealing balls, stick .118 (3 mm) diameter sealing ball on 8 mm diameter punch with small amount of grease and drive ball flush into hole of transfer plate.
