Oil Pump Assembly: Reassembly

  1. Install thrust washer on pump housing. Carefully install large piston rings, and then small piston rings. Make sure that ring ends are hooked together correctly. Lubricate all pats with ATF.
  2. Install inner and outer gears into housing. Side of outer gear with marking (code letter) must face cover plate. Install drive plate with extended hub inserted into pump body away from cover plate. Install check ball and spring. Align cover with housing. Install and tighten attaching screws.
NOTE: After reassembly, insert pump shaft into oil pump and ensure that gears rotate smoothly without binding. Gear movement should also be checked after pump is installed in transmission case.
