Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Verify that debris is not blocking the airflow through the charge air cooler (CAC).
  2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the Intake Manifold Pressure and Air Temperature Sensor.
  3. CAUTION: Do NOT use a test lamp to test the continuity of the circuit. Damage to the control module may occur due to excessive current draw.
  4. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down. Test for less than 5 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 1 or A and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  5. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool IAT Sensor 2 parameter is colder than -39°C (-38°F).
    • If warmer than the specified range, test the signal circuit terminal 2 or B for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  6. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal 3 or C and ground
    • If less than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 ECM.
  7. NOTE: If the fuse in the jumper wire opens, the signal circuit is shorted to a voltage and the sensor may be damaged.
  8. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 2 or B and ground. Verify the scan tool IAT Sensor 2 parameter is warmer than 142°C (288°F).
    • If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal replace the ECM.
  9. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the Intake Manifold Pressure and Air Temperature Sensor.
