Intake Camshaft and Valve Lifter Removal

  1. Uniformly loosen and remove the 10 bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

  3. Uniformly loosen and remove the 15 bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
  4. NOTE: Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.
  5. Remove the 5 bearing caps.

  7. Remove the camshaft.

  9. Remove the No. 2 camshaft.

    NOTE: Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.
  11. Remove the 16 valve rocker arms.

  13. Remove the 16 valve lash adjusters from the cylinder head.

  15. Remove the oil control valve filter.

  17. Remove the 2 No. 1 camshaft bearings.

  19. Remove the 2 No. 2 camshaft bearings.

  21. Remove the 2 bolts.

    CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder head and camshaft housing.
    NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
  23. Remove the camshaft housing by prying between the cylinder head and camshaft housing with a screwdriver.
  24. Remove the cylinder head sub-assembly.
  25. Remove the cylinder head gasket.
