Cylinder Head Disassemble

    Fig 1: Identifying Valve Stem Caps

    IMPORTANT: Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.
  1. Remove the valve stem caps from the cylinder heads.

  2. Remove the intake valve.
    3. IMPORTANT: Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.
  3. Using SST and wooden blocks, compress and remove the valve retainer locks.
    4. IMPORTANT: Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.
  4. Remove the retainer, valve spring and intake valve.

    IMPORTANT: Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.
  5. Using SST and wooden blocks, compress and remove the exhaust valve retainer locks.
    6. IMPORTANT: Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.
  6. Remove the retainer, valve spring and exhaust valve.

  7. Using needle-nose pliers, remove the valve stem oil seals.

  8. Using compressed air and a magnetic pick-up tool, remove the valve spring seats by blowing air onto them.

    IMPORTANT: If water leaks from any of the straight screw plugs or if the plug is corroded, replace it.
  9. Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench, remove the 3 No. 2 STRAIGHT screw plugs and 3 gaskets.
