Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
    NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
  1. Disconnect the cable from negative battery terminal.

  3. Disconnect the 2 washer hose clamps (1) and washer hose (2).

  5. Remove the 4 bolts (1) and hood sub-assembly.
  6. Remove the air inlet panel assembly. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement .
  7. Remove the outer cowl top panel.
  8. Align the front wheels facing straight ahead.
  9. Remove the front wheels.
  10. Remove the engine under covers.
  11. Drain the automatic transaxle fluid.
  12. Remove the No. 2 cylinder head cover.
  13. Remove the air cleaner cap.
  14. Remove the battery.
  15. Remove the battery tray.
  16. Disconnect the wire harness.

  18. Disconnect the speed sensor connector and wire harness clamp.
  19. Remove the bolt and transmission control cable bracket.

  21. Disconnect the transmission wire connector, park/neutral position switch connector (2) and 2 wire harness clamps.

  23. Disconnect the breather hose (1).
  24. Disconnect the transmission control cable assembly.
  25. Remove the front suspension crossmember. Refer to Front Suspension Crossmember Replacement (All Wheel Drive) or Front Suspension Crossmember Replacement (Two Wheel Drive) .

  27. Remove the flywheel housing under cover.

  29. Remove the drive plate and torque converter clutch setting bolt.
  30. NOTE: One of the 6 bolts has a different color than the other ones.
  31. Remove the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.

  33. Remove the 2 hose clamps, bolt (3) and disconnect the oil cooler.

  35. Remove the transmission oil level gage sub-assembly.
  36. Remove the bolt (1) and transmission oil filler tube sub-assembly.
  37. Remove the O-ring from the transmission oil filler tube sub-assembly.
  38. Remove the starter assembly.
  39. Support the automatic transaxle assembly with the transmission jack.

  41. Remove the 7 bolts (1) and automatic transaxle from the engine.

  43. Remove the 3 bolts (1) and the engine mounting bracket LH from the automatic transaxle.

  45. Remove the 4 bolts (1) and remove the front engine mounting bracket from the automatic transaxle.

  47. Remove the 3 bolts (1) and remove the rear engine mounting bracket from the automatic transaxle.

  49. Remove the 2 bolts (1) and the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket from the automatic transaxle.

  51. Remove the bolt (1) and speedometer driven hole cover sub-assembly.
  52. Remove the torque converter clutch from the automatic transaxle.
