Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the transmission 20-way harness connector.
  2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal and ground.
    • Terminal E for shift solenoid valve 1-2 and 2-3.
    • Terminal U for the TCC solenoid.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the fuse is open, test or replace the affected solenoid.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal and the ignition voltage circuit terminal.
    • Terminals E and A for shift solenoid valve 1-2.
    • Terminals E and B for shift solenoid valve 2-3.
    • Terminals U and T for the TCC solenoid.
  4. Command the affected shift solenoid ON and OFF with a scan tool or command the TCC solenoid to 90 percent with a scan tool. The test lamp should respond when changing between the commanded states.
    • If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the TCM.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the TCM.
  5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the internal transmission wiring harness or the affected solenoid.
