Circuit/System Testing

IMPORTANT: When removing connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected.
  • Inflatable restraint passenger air bag on/off indicator.
  • Inflatable restraint passenger air bag on/off indicator wiring harness.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the inflatable restraint passenger air bag ON/OFF indicator.
  2. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 4 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the ignition circuit fuse is open, test or replace the inflatable restraint passenger air bag ON/OFF indicator.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the ignition circuit terminal 4 and the control circuit terminal 3.
  4. With the passenger seat unoccupied, then occupied the test lamp should switch states within 5 seconds.
    • If the test lamp is always on, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal replace the IPC.
    • If the test lamp is always off, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal replace the IPC.
  5. Connect a test lamp between the ignition circuit terminal 4 and the control circuit terminal 1.
  6. With the passenger seat unoccupied, then occupied the test lamp should switch states within 5 seconds.
    • If the test lamp is always on, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal replace the IPC.
    • If the test lamp is always off, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal replace the IPC.
  7. If all circuits test normal, replace the inflatable restraint passenger air bag ON/OFF indicator.
