Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
    3. CAUTION: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.
  3. Without disconnecting the brake hose fitting, remove the brake caliper and brake caliper bracket as an assembly and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (JL9)  or Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (J55) .
    4. NOTE: The brake rotor is coated with a corrosion inhibitor and must not be refinished.
  4. Inspect the surface of the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Surface and Wear Inspection (JL9)  or Brake Rotor Surface and Wear Inspection (J55) .

    Replace the brake rotor if refinishing is indicated.

  5. Mark the relationship of the rotor to the hub.
  6. Remove the brake rotor.
