Speed Alert

The Speed Alert feature notifies the driver what the legal speed limit is for the road the vehicle is currently travelling on. This feature also alerts the driver when the speed limit has been exceeded. Scroll through the DIC vehicle information menu to display 'Speed Limit: XXX MPH (Km/h). The displayed speed is the legal speed limit for the road. When the vehicle speed exceeds the legal speed limit, the warning 'Speed Limit: XXX MPH (Km/h) appears on the DIC.

The speed alert feature offers 4 selectable options:

  1. Speed Alert: OFF
  2. Speed Alert: At Limit (no offset)
  3. Speed Alert: +5 MPH (Km/h)
  4. Speed Alert: +10 MPH (Km/h)

Options 3 and 4 are offsets for the warning message. This means the warning message does not display until the vehicle speed exceeds the legal speed limit by 5 or 10 MPH (Km/h). When option 1 is selected (Speed Alert: OFF) no DIC warning message is displayed. However, the speed limit will still be displayed by scrolling through the DIC menus.

The IPC receives Speed Alert information as serial data messages from the radio/navigation system and does not have any control over the data being displayed. If the radio/navigation system does not send the speed alert message, the IPC displays "-" "-" (dashes). This could be because there are no speed data for the road the vehicle is travelling on, a malfunction in the radio/navigation system or a GPS malfunction.
