Measurement Procedure

  1. Rotate the transmission so the side cover (29) faces up.
  2. Install the J 39686:  input end play check tool into the case barrel. Install the J 25025-7A:  dial indicator post.

  4. Locate the J tab of the J 39686:  input end play check tool on the input shaft (604). The arrow on the J tab should have a 90 degree orientation.
  5. NOTE: The washer of the J 39686:  input end play check tool must rest flat on the case cover seal.
  6. Rotate the threaded shaft of the J 39686:  input end play check tool clockwise until the shaft is tight. Leave enough space for the collar.
  7. Insert the collar. Install the J 8001:  dial indicator.

  9. Push down on the handle of the J 39686:  input end play check tool and check the end play. End play should be 0.10-0.85 mm (0.004-0.033 in).

    If the measurement is out of the specification range, determine the appropriate selective thrust washer (522) for installation when you reassemble the input shaft.

  10. Remove the J 8001:  dial indicator, the J 25025-7A:  dial indicator post and the J 39686:  input end play check tool.
