Master Cylinder Replacement

Callout Component Name
WARNING: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning .
Preliminary Procedures: Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector.
1 Brake Pipe Fitting (Qty: 2)
CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .

Procedure

  1. Cap the brake pipe fittings to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
  2. After the installation is complete, bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure)  or Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) .

Tighten:  29 N.m (21 lb ft)

2 Master Cylinder Nut (Qty: 2)

Tighten: 

  • JL9: 27 N.m (20 lb ft)
  • J55: 30 N.m (22 lb ft)

3 Brake Master Cylinder

Procedure

  1. Inspect the master cylinder O-ring seal for damage and replace, if necessary.
  2. Remove the master cylinder reservoir, if necessary. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement (JL9)  or Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement (J55) .
  3. Before installing the master cylinder, bench bleed the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding .
