Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  3. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .
  4. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  5. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LNJ Static Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LNJ GE 47716 Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LY7 Static Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LY7 GE 47716 Fill) .
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  7. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  8. Remove the lower belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Lower .
  9. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Remove the left belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Left Side .

  13. Remove the right engine mount bracket bolts (2-4).
  14. Remove the right engine mount bracket (1).
  15. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (RPO LNJ) or Water Pump Replacement (RPO LY7) .
  16. Remove the thermostat bypass hose adapter. Refer to Thermal Bypass Fitting Replacement .
  17. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the engine front cover. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LNJ) or Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LY7) .

  19. Remove the engine front cover bolts (2-4).
  20. Remove the engine front cover (1).

  22. Remove the engine front cover gasket (1).
  23. Clean the engine block and front cover gasket sealing surfaces.
