Installation Procedure

  1. Apply sealer to the lower tabs of the engine front cover gasket. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants  for the correct part number. Uniformly apply the sealer to both sides of the gasket lower tabs with the sealant bead being no less than 5.0 mm (0.20 in) wide as shown. Torque front cover immediately after installation of sealer coated gasket.

  3. Install the gasket (1) to the engine block positioning the gasket on the locating pins (2).

  5. Install the engine front cover (1) to the engine block aligning the cover with the locating pins.
  6. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  7. Install the engine front cover bolts (3, 4).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 55 N.m (41 lb ft).

  8. Install the engine front cover bolts (2).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  9. Install the radiator outlet hose to the engine front cover. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LNJ) or Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LY7) .
  10. Install the thermostat bypass hose adapter. Refer to Thermal Bypass Fitting Replacement .
  11. Install the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (RPO LNJ) or Water Pump Replacement (RPO LY7) .

  13. Install the right engine mount bracket (1).
  14. Install the right engine mount bracket bolts (2-4).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 55 N.m (41 lb ft).

  15. Install the engine mount bracket bolts (3).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  16. Install the left belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Left Side .
  17. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  18. Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  19. Install the lower belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Lower .
  20. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  23. Remove the engine support fixture.
  24. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  25. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  26. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LNJ Static Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LNJ GE 47716 Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LY7 Static Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LY7 GE 47716 Fill) .
