Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Pontiac Torrent and 2009 Chevrolet Equinox. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, remove the fuse that supplies B+ to terminal 56-X2 of the ECM.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate CMP sensor.
  3. NOTE: The control module or the sensor may be damaged if the circuit is shorted to B+ voltage.
  4. Test for 5 Ω or less between the low reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance or for a short to voltage. If the circuit/connections test normal, replace the ECM.
  5. Install the fuse that supplies B+ to terminal 56-X2 of the ECM.
  6. Ignition ON, test for greater than 4.8V between the 5-volt reference circuit terminal 3 and ground.
    • If less than the specified value, test the 5-volt reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuits/connections test normal, replace the ECM.
  7. Test for 4.8-5.2V between the signal circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test for a short to voltage in the signal circuit. If circuit/connections test normal, replace the ECM.
    • If less than the specified range, test for a short to ground or an open/high resistance in the signal circuit. If circuit/connections test normal, replace the ECM.
  8. If all circuits/connections test normal, replace the CMP sensor.
