Assembly Procedure

  1. Position the NEW retaining washer (1) on the steering gear inner tie rod.
  2. Position the steering gear inner tie rod on the steering gear rack.
  3. Place a pipe wrench on the steering gear rack next to the steering gear inner tie rod.
    4. CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  4. Place a torque wrench with a crows foot attachment on the flats of the steering gear inner tie rod housing (2).

    Tighten to 78 N.m (58 lb ft).

  5. Bend the tabs over on the retaining washer in order to secure the steering gear inner tie rod housing.
  6. Install the steering gear boot. Refer to Steering Gear Boot Replacement - Off Vehicle .
