Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Pontiac Torrent and 2009 Chevrolet Equinox. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the rack and pinion outer tie rods from the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
  2. Remove the intermediate steering shaft lower bolt. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  3. Place drain pans under the vehicle as needed.

  5. Remove the transaxle mount bolt (1).

  7. Remove the transaxle mount bolts (1) and position the transaxle mount aside.

  9. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet hose (2) and the power steering cooler hose (1) from the power steering gear.

  11. If equipped, remove the power steering gear hoses bracket bolt (1).
  12. If equipped, unclip the power steering gear hose from the bracket.

  14. Remove the power steering gear bolts (1).
  15. Remove the power steering gear through the left wheel house area.
  16. Transfer any parts as needed.
