Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Pontiac Torrent and 2009 Chevrolet Equinox. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Position the power steering gear into the vehicle through the left wheel house area.

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  2. Install the power steering gear bolts (1) and tighten to 110 N.m (81 lb ft).

  3. If equipped, install the power steering gear hoses bracket bolt (1) and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  4. If equipped, clip the power steering gear hose to the bracket.

  5. Connect the power steering gear inlet hose (2) and the power steering fluid cooler hose (1) to the power steering gear.

    Tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  6. Install the transaxle mount and transaxle mount bolts (1) and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  7. Install the transaxle mount bolt (1) and tighten to 110 N.m (81 lb ft).
  8. Clean any excess fluid from the vehicle and remove the drain pans.
  9. Install the intermediate steering shaft lower bolt. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  10. Connect the rack and pinion outer tie rods to the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
  11. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  12. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment .
