Audible Warnings Description and Operation
The audible warnings alert the driver of a system concern or a critical vehicle condition. The IPC is the chime producer and generates audible warning chimes through an acoustic speaker. The IPC issues audible warning chimes to reinforce the following conditions:
- A vehicle warning or indicator is present
- A DIC menu selection is made
- DIC or any console switches are pressed
If the IPC receives multiple audible warning requests, the warning with the highest priority sounds first. The following lists the audible warning categories and each category has a defined frequency, duration, decay and cycle repeat of each chime. Audible warning chimes falls under any of these categories:
- Overspeed Chime
- Underspeed Chime
- Reminder Chime
- General Warning Chime
- Confirmation Beep Chime
The IPC receives audible warning requests via the serial data circuit. The audible warning chimes are two types:
- Internal Chimes: The IPC issues an audible warning chime to reinforce a certain vehicle condition. Some of the internal chimes may have an associated IPC indicator.
- External Chimes: The IPC generates the chimes in response to requests received via the serial data circuit from other modules. The IPC does not request these chimes, but receives external chime commands from other modules. Some of the external chimes may have an associated IPC indicator

- High Engine Coolant Temperature
- Low Oil
- MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)
- ABS
- Battery
- Tire Pressure Monitor
- Steering Wheel Control Switches
- Reset
- Air Bag
- Seat Belt (Driver/Passenger)
- Shift Up
- Rest Reminder
- Limp Home Mode
- Turn Indicator (Click-Clack Sound)
- Key-In-Ignition
- Headlamp Reminder
- Park Brake Reminder
- Engine Overheated
- Low Oil Pressure
- Reduced Engine Power

Other vehicles systems will also request for a chime warning when it is detected that the system needs service with an associated IPC indicator present. Acknowledging vehicle information displayed in the DIC and other DIC switch functions may also generate chime warnings from the IPC.
