Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (RPO LS4) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (RPOs L26/L32) in Engine Electrical.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (L26, L32 GE 47716 Fill) or Draining and Filling Cooling System (L26, L32 Static Fill) or Draining and Filling Cooling System (LS4 GE 47716 Fill) or Draining and Filling Cooling System (LS4 Static Fill) in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement (RPO LS4) or Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement (RPOs L26, L32) in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (L26)  or Drive Belt Replacement (L32) .
  5. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (RPO LS4) or Generator Replacement (RPOs L26/L32) in Engine Electrical.
  6. Remove the heater hose adapters with the heater hoses from the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (L26, L32) or Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (RPO LS4) and to Heater Hose Replacement - Outlet (L26, L32) or Heater Hose Replacement - Outlet (RPO LS4) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

  8. Remove the drive belt tensioner bolts.
  9. Remove the drive belt tensioner.
  10. If replacing the drive belt tensioner, remove the thermostat bypass upper and lower pipe assemblies.
